Five minutes a day is enough to start

An open notebook and a cup of chai on a table with a pen resting across the page

Almost every woman who joins us says the same thing in her first week: I don't have time.

She is not making an excuse. She genuinely doesn't have a free hour. But an hour was never the requirement.

The real reason people stop

Ask someone why they gave up on English and they will say time. Watch what actually happened and it is usually different. They set themselves an hour a day, managed it for four days, missed the fifth, felt guilty, missed the sixth, and quietly stopped.

It was not the missing hour that ended it. It was the guilt.

Five minutes survives a bad day

A five-minute habit survives a sick child, a power cut, guests arriving, a long day. An hour does not. And the woman who practises five minutes a day for a year has done thirty hours of speaking — far more than the woman who did an hour a day for two weeks and then stopped.

Consistency beats intensity. It is not inspiring advice. It is just what works.

What five minutes can actually hold

  • Say out loud what you did today. Six sentences. Nobody is listening.
  • Describe the room you are sitting in.
  • Read one paragraph aloud from anything in English.
  • Send one WhatsApp message in English that you would normally send in Hindi.
  • Say tomorrow's plan out loud before you sleep.

Notice that four of these involve your mouth, not your eyes. Reading English silently builds a language you can understand. Speaking English aloud builds a language you can use. They are not the same skill, and only one of them helps when someone asks you a question.

Speak before you are ready

The most common mistake is waiting. Waiting until the grammar is better, until the vocabulary is bigger, until it will not be embarrassing.

That day does not arrive on its own. It arrives because you spoke badly for a while first. Every fluent person you know was once someone speaking badly and continuing anyway.

Five minutes today is worth more than a perfect plan for Monday.

Reading about it is one thing. Sitting in a class is another — and the first one is free.
